CONFERENCES/WORKSHOPS
NASA LIVING WITH A STAR SPACE ENVIRONMENT TESTBEDS
Pre-NRA REQUIREMENTS WORKSHOP
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Office of Space Science is sponsoring a workshop to seek requirements for investigation providers and partners from all industry, government agencies, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers, and universities for its next data mining opportunity in the Space Environment Testbeds (SET) project in the Living With A Star (LWS) Program.
The SET investigations of interest will use existing in-space flight data to develop or improve design and/or operations models, guidelines, and databases applicable to accommodation or mitigation of solar-varying space environment effects. Requirements for investigation should (1) better characterize the environment in the presence of a spacecraft or aircraft and/or (2) perform better predictions of hardware's performance in the space environment. Five focus technology categories have the highest priority: (1) the environment in the presence of the spacecraft; (2) effects on m icroelectronics technologies; (3) effects on detector and/or sensor technologies; (4) degradation and shielding properties of materials; and (5) spacecraft charging/discharging.
This workshop will take place on March 29 and 30, 2007 at the Marriott Greenbelt, Greenbelt, MD. Registration and Accommodation information can be found at website, https://www.infonetic.com/tis/lws/. Individuals and/or corporations planning to attend are requested to pre-register by March 21, 2007, by completing the electronic registration form provided under https://www.infonetic.com/tis/lws/. Workshop products are intended to refine the technical requirements for LWS SET investigations. The refined requirements will be used as advice when NASA evaluates proposals submitted to the SET portion of the NASA Research Announcement, "Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences 2007," that is planned for release in Spring 2007. Specific information describing requirements used the previous LWS SET NRA's can be found under Previous Pre-NRA Workshops Summaries LWS SET web site.
In this workshop, we will also discuss opportunities for cost-sharing of SET investigations. Workshop attendees are requested to provide the following information using the Requirements Form at the workshop: A description of the preliminary requirements for an investigation; A description of how their suggested investigations can address the preliminary requirements; An estimate of the cost and schedule for providing the investigation products; and, An identification of approaches for cost-sharing the investigation.
Questions concerning the workshop should be directed to Chikia S. Barnes at the LWS SET Office, (301) 286-3916 or via e-mail: Chikia.S.Barnes@nasa.gov.
